jersey shore!

Jessssss, where you at?! :-)

This Memorial Day weekend I went to the Jersey Shore (Strathmere, NJ to be exact) to spend a few days relaxing with friends. Despite the unhealthy amounts of beer and grilled meats that were consumed, I actually rallied on Sunday morning to go for a run. I ran along the beach road into the "downtown" area of Sea Isle City, a little over 2 miles from where we were staying. For a change of scenery and less pounding on my knees I ran on the beach back to the house.

Running on the beach is hard. I ran on the packed sand, but I could still feel my legs working in overdrive to compensate for the not-hard-as-concrete surface (though my joints were very happy about the change). The scenery was gorgeous though--it was slightly cool, smelled like salt water, and the ocean was right there... boo on being back in the real world!

I'm convinced if I lived at the beach I would run everyday (maybe). And I'd probably be tan, too!

back in action

Hello, blogging community.

My many apologies for being MIA. I started taking the Sport Leading 2 class at the climbing gym on May 4 and it is AMAZING. As a result, I found myself wanting to go in and practice rather than run :-P The last class was May 18 so I should be able to stick to a running schedule a little bit better :-)

I have a new strategy for planning my runs. I ABSOLUTELY cannot get up and run before work. But by the time I take the metro, get home, change, and actually get outside, it's 8pm. Sooooo yesterday I took all my running stuff with me to work and ran around the National Mall as soon as I finished up. It was scenic and stayed light out the entire time I ran--perfect!

Not to mention it was gorgeous...65 degrees and AMAZING. My route went around the entire Mall and I was rather entertained by the gazillion kickball and pick-up soccer games that were going on. I didn't time myself, but it was a 5.5 mile loop, and it went by quickly since the weather and scenery were fantastic.

Jess, I'm inspired by your commitment to pilates and am going to go to yoga sometime in the next week. Courtney actually got me hooked on bikram when she lived in VA, but it's a tad expensive, plus Court isn't around anymore to make me go! The climbing gym has yoga (free for members and employees, yeah!) Monday-Thursday, so I'm going to try to go once a week. We'll see how this goes...

heyyy everyone...

i definitely sucked at blogging this week. the only thing that makes me feel better is that ko sucks WORSE at blogging than i do! who woulda thunk it?

i had a decent week...
monday: pilates, 3.8mile run
tuesday: 3.8 mile run
wednesday: 2.4 mile run
thursday 5.0 mile run
friday: pilates

im pretty satisfied with that 15.0 miles run this week...

i really should swim more but i HATE the process that swimming involves... bathing suit... get IN THE WATER.... i hate getting in the water... doing lots of laps... then having to be cold walking to the shower... public showers... dry hair... yeah, not much to like.

i also learned a valuable lesson this week... so thursday, i wake up and im all excited for my run. (i have no idea why i was excited.) so i decide to just grab a granola bar and eat barely anything before i run... and no coffee. im USELESS without food and coffee, it turns out. this was confirmed during my run. i literally wanted to die- actually it felt like my run put me on the fast track to death. it felt imminent. horrible.

otherwise it was an uneventful week.

OH. unrelated. i bought an iphone. im totally broke and still am... so all you crazy kids who are imagining the millions im making as a swim coach... think again. it was surprisingly enough the cheapest option for a new blackberry/iphone device. that was a shocking but lovely discovery.

ok. have a good weekend. ill blog more next week. i wouldnt want to keep you waiting.

gfnalgg

ohh HerrOOoo everyone

sooo im in a better mood than i was when i last posted... kind of.

heres my weekly report:

Monday: pilates, run 2.8 miles
Tuesday: run 5 miles (technically walked up 4 steep hills-- altogether walked for less than .2 miles)
Wednesday: pilates, walk 2.5 miles
Thursday: run 5 miles (same run at Tues-- only walked up one of those same 4 hills. yay me.)
Friday: pilates, swim 1 mile

total: 3 pilates; swim 1 mile; run 12.8 miles; walk 2.5 miles

thats not too bad... i think until like early july, im going to run around 13.1 miles/week and try and swim 2 times. i wont have time for pilates in a few weeks b/c ill be working more... turns out swim coaches are more in demand during summer. who knew?

have a lovely weekend... i wont be working out AT ALL... yay for swim meets!
